PLEDGE TO PREPARE

GET ACTIVE

(Training to Respond)

Finally, there are also many ways in which you can more proactively prepare your House of Worship or Community-Based organization for a disaster:

  • Red Cross Preparedness Education Presentation: Your House of Worship or Community-Based Organization can host a 45-minute long presentation by an American Red Cross representative on general disaster preparedness. It requires a 30 day notice, a minimum of 20 people must be present, and can be done in English, Spanish, Chinese, or Korean.

  • FEMA’s Simple Preparedness Education Course (IS-909): This class is a web-based course on how to prepare for a disaster, specifically designed for leaders of non-profit and faith-based organizations.

  • Obtain Amateur Radio (HAM Radio) Certification: Amateur radio may be one of the only open lines of communication after a disaster. To learn about how to take and pass the licensing exam, click here

  • Active Shooter Webinar: Read this tip sheet, which has important information for Houses of Worship on how to prepare for and react active shooters. Your Community-Based Organization or House of Worship can also host a preparedness webinar by watching an informative video created by the Department of Homeland Security.
