LA County Pledge to Prepare is a weekend initiative to encourage Houses of Worship and Community-Based Organizations to prepare their communities and themselves for disasters. The recent earthquakes and continued wildfire threat reinforce the need for county residents to prepare for disasters in advance of them occurring.
During the weekend of July 16-19, The Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management is asking Houses of Worship and Community-Based Organizations throughout LA County to host or support disaster preparedness activities. There are multiple preparedness options to choose from identified on the LA County Pledge to Prepare flyer. With multiple options, selections can be made that are right for the House of Worship, the Community-Based Organization, or the communities they serve.
Our LA County Pledge to Prepare Team can provide information and resources to support communities as they prepare to host an activity. You can register your House of Worship or Community-Based Organization’s participation in the initiative at lacopledgetoprepare.eventbrite.com or contact the LA County Pledge to Prepare Team with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is partnering with the White House Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships (OFCNP), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Los Angeles County Public Health Department (PH), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Federal Emergency Management Agency Corps (NCCC FEMA Corps), Emergency Network Los Angeles (ENLA), American Red Cross (ARC), and Preparation & Awareness for Community Resiliency in Emergencies and Disasters (PACRED).
As part of the disaster preparedness, these Community-Based Organizations and Houses of Worship will participate in one or all of four categories of activities. These categories include the following: Informed, Connected, Prepared, and Active. Some of these activities require greater levels of commitment than others, but all those participating are welcome to choose one or all of the activities that best suit their capabilities.
The disaster preparedness activities listed on this webpage can be helpful to individuals, Community-Based Organizations, and Houses of Worship.
Please help the residents of LA County prepare for disasters by joining the LA County Pledge to Prepare Initiative.
